Earlier this month, I posted a preview of Wicked Pictures’ one of the most ambitious film the studio has ever produced, Horizon. Starring jessica drake (who chooses to spell her name without using any capital letters), who shares the screen with talent such as Alektra Blue and Kimberly Kane, Horizon stands to be one of the biggest films of the year.
Since posting the preview, which included two trailers and some video interviews with jessica drake and Kimberly Kane, I’ve had the opportunity to actually see the movie. After watching it, I can honestly say that Horizon more than lives up to the considerable hype and lofty expectations surrounding it.
Horizon | What I liked about it…
There’s a lot to like about Horizon. Sam Hain has managed to put together a thoroughly and impressive sci-fi porn flick that keeps everyone interested right until the very end. In terms of on-screen talent, jessica drake delivers another solid performance. While she only appears in one sex scene (she’s featured in another that’s not included in the movie but is part of the DVD special features), she commands every scene that she’s in and adds quite a bit to the overall quality of the film. Additionally, Kimberly Kane also delivers a stunning performance in her role as an ace fighter pilot. Finally, the movie tells a solid sci-fi story that any fan of the genre can appreciate.
And now let’s talk about the sex. After all, for all the interesting plot points and big-budget special effects, Horizon is a porn film. And in terms of hardcore sex, Horizon delivers in force. The movie contains a total of six sex scenes, which include an Alektra Blue M/M/F threesom and two lesbian scenes.
Additionally, the DVD (which comes packaged as a four disk, DVD/Blu-Ray combo) special features contain two bonus sex scenes, starring jessica drake and Alektra Blue. Each of the scenes, especially the ones starring Kimberly Kane, are intense and will not disappoint. And did I mention that jessica drake is in this movie? Anyone familiar with her body of work knows that when it comes to delivering solid and uber-hot sex scenes, no one does it better and Horizon is no exception.
Horizon | What I didn’t like about it…
For all its successes, however, Horizon does fall down in a few areas. While the film contains some of the most impressive CGI special effects to ever be included in a porn, the majority of the scenes are set in empty metal or stone-walled rooms. And by empty, I mean EMPTY. Even the Horizon’s bridge room is shockingly sparse, consisting of only four walls and four raised platforms for the crew to stand on. No chairs, not consoles, nothing. At one point, when jessica drake orders the crew to “strap in” and brace for impact, I found myself thinking, “Strap into what?!?!”
Also, the gunfight scenes are a little bit disappointing and extremely unimpressive. They consist mostly of people standing still and shooting at things that the audience can’t see. I know it’s a porn and not a Summer action flick, but damn, with the budget Sam Hain was working with he could have at least sprung for a little choreography, I would think.
The bottom line…
All in all, though, Horizon comes away as an extremely entertaining and impressive porn film. While there were some things that could have probably been done better, the fact remains that Horizon is packed with top notch adult performers, has an interesting plot (just having a plot sets it apart from most other porn), and delivers something that we haven’t yet seen before in an adult film.
This is one of those rare porn films that is worth watching multiple times and is one that will have everyone talking about after they’ve seen it. Highly recommended.
