Playboy Magazine is Back…Sort Of

An online version is set to launch later this year…

The Playboy magazine was canceled in 2020. For a lot of people, that was a painful moment. However, after being dead for the past three years, the iconic Playboy magazine is getting a second life. Later this year, it will relaunch as an online-only publication. Additionally, Playboy will be adding an Onlyfans-style element — it’s “Creator” platform — to the mix. The result will be the most radical transformation to the brand in it’s seventy-plus years of existence.

This also means the end of the Playboy centerfold.

As first reported over at the New York Post, the new online magazine will replace it’s iconic centerfolds with “Playboy Creators”. These creators are online models, all of whom have to be accepted into the program by Playboy editorial staff, who will be the new heart and soul of the new online Playboy brand. The idea is to offer an alternative to Onlyfans, where Playboy subscribers will be able to get access to the exclusive content being churned out by these creators.

To quote from the Post article…

“Our Playboy creator platform is the Playboy magazine for the 21st century,” the company’s chief brand officer Rachel Webber said. “We’re putting the power of content creation in the hands of the creative community and giving them the tools to interact with and monetize their fanbases directly.”

The big difference between OnlyFans and Playboy, the brand says, is that while anyone can become an OnlyFans creator, Playboy’s creators have to apply and be accepted by its editorial team.

Still, Playboy’s new platform shares many of OnlyFans’ features: Users can subscribe and pay to view adult and non-adult content and will be able to message the models — all while getting special “access” to their daily lives.

Meet Amanda Cerny, the first online Playboy cover model…

When the new online version of Playboy launches a few months from now, Amanda Cerny will be the publication’s first cover model. After Playboy shuttered its print magazine, Amanda signed on with the Playboy Creator platform and quickly became one of the platform’s most popular and financially successful models. According to the New York Post article referenced above, Cerny has made over $1 million since she became a Playboy Creator.

It’s worth noting, especially to the audience of this scummy website, that Amanda Cerny doesn’t do hardcore porn. That being said, she’s not new to the Playboy scene. She was the Playmate of the Month in October 2011. From there, she grew her popularity on social media and established a fairly popular Youtube channel. So while she isn’t doing sex stuff in front of a camera, she does have a strong legion of fans who are very willing to pay to see her do softcore modeling.

When will the new Playboy online magazine launch?

Fuck if I know.

According to the New York Post article, Playboy’s new online format will debut “later this year” but there’s no specific date provided. Other questions that I don’t have answers to include, “How much will a subscription to the Playboy online magazine cost?”, “Does a subscription give full access to all the Playboy Creators or does that cost extra?” and “Will the Playboy Creators do any hardcore performances?”

I’m sure that as we get closer to whenever the new “magazine” is going to launch, Playboy will be answering all of those questions via press releases and media interviews and stuff like that. I’ll do my best to keep an eye out for more details and, if I can get my broken attention span and work ethic to cooperate, will tell you all about it.

What do you think?
