But why did Vivid even make her an offer to begin with?

Facing a nuclear powered tsunami of public backlash and criticism, Vivid Entertainment withdrew its original offer to Casey Anthony to star in a feature length porn movie.  While the porn industry has always openly flirted with sleezey celebrities, a woman who most people believe is guilty of murdering her child seems to be too much for anyone to stomach.

The idea to offer Anthony a porn deal in the first place was probably the stupidest thing Vivid has ever done and backing away from the deal is probably in everyone’s best interests.  I really can’t even believe that Vivid CEO Steve Hirsch would have even considered something this asinine.

In regards to making the offer to Casey Anthony to star in one of his films, Vivid’s Steve Hirsch had the following to say, as reported by AVN

It has become obvious to us that Vivid fans, and people in general, want nothing to do with her and that includes a XXX movie,” Hirsch told TMZ.com today.

Hirsch explains, ‘We were ready to make an offer to Casey to star in one of our feature films. It’s clear to me now, however, that there has been an overwhelmingly negative response to our offer and so we’ve decided to withdraw it.’

‘We now believe that we underestimated the emotional response that people are having to the verdict,’ Hirsch said. ‘A movie starring Casey Anthony is not what people want to see.

No doubt, just the fact that Vivid was initially willing to offer someone as reviled and hated as Casey Anthony a shot at a movie deal has cost the company the respect of many.  While I don’t think anyone considers any porn studio to be a moral compass, offering an opportunity to star in a feature length film to someone like Casey Anthony is a pretty risky move for Vivid.

And, like I said, it was stupid.

Even if this was just some sort of publicity stunt, with Vivid and Hirsch having no intention of actually following through with it, it was still in bad taste.  Not guilty verdict aside, Casey Anthony is as broken of a person as anyone is likely to encounter.

Casey Anthony was brought before justice and, like it or not, she was found not guilty.  And while she has every right to take advantage of whatever opportunities that are presented to her, I think she would be best advised to just go away for awhile.  And while the saying that “any publicity is good publicity” may be true, especially for the adult entertainment industry, making deals with Casey Anthony isn’t good business for anyone involved.

A Casey Anthony porn would have been disastrous for everyone, the studio the produced it, anyone who was featured in it, and for Anthony herself.  And as someone who runs affiliate advertisements for Vivid on this site, I’m really, really disappointed that Hirsch was willing to take this as far as he did.  To be honest, this stunt has me seriously considering pulling all of those ads.

So what do you think?  Was Vivid’s decision to initially offer Casey Anthony a porn deal really as bad as everyone thinks?  Let us know in the comments.
