10. Marilyn Chambers

Marilyn Chambers began her Porn career in the early 1970s and was still performing hardcore scenes up until around 2001. During the Seventies, Marilyn established herself as a legit XXX superstar with performances in such classics as Behind The Green Door (ranked as one of the 10 best porn movies of the 1970s), Inside Marilyn Chambers and Never A Tender Moment. Marilyn was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1985 and was working with Devil’s Film on a line of sexual education films that included Marilyn Chambers’ Guide To Anal Sex right up until her death in 2009 at age 57.

9. Desiree Cousteau

While she got her start in the late 1970s, Desiree Cousteau certainly made an impact on that decade’s Porn. One of her first films, Pretty Peaches (VCA), earned her an AFAA Best Actress trophy and helped establish her as a hardcore force of nature. She followed that up with several other Seventies bangers, including Pizza Girls (VCX), Swedish Erotica Film 152 (Caballero Home Video) and Candy Goes To Hollywood (VCX). Desiree Cousteau was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1992 and the AVN Hall of Fame in 1997.

8. Kay Parker

Kay Parker in an XXX legend, who performed in about 125 dirty movies starting in 1977 up until 1988. She’s probably best known for her incredible showing in Taboo, which was released in 1979 and is still considered one of the most risque adult films ever made. Some of her other notable work during the Seventies include scenes in films such as V The Hot One (Metro), 7 Into Snowy (VCA) and Kate And The Indians (TVX). Basically, Kay Parker was a superstar MILF before the world even knew the meaning of the word “MILF”.

7. Candida Royalle

Candida Royalle got her start in smut in 1975 and went on to perform in several hit adult films during the Seventies. Some of her best work was featured in joints such as Swedish Erotica Film 182 (Caballero Home Video), The Liberation of Honeydoll Jones (VCX) and Carnal Haven (Alpha Blue Archives). Candida performed in about 50 hardcore movies during the 70s and went on to found Femme Productions in the mid 80s, where she continued her career as an acclaimed director and producer. Candida is a 1997 XRCO Hall of Fame inductee. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.

6. Georgina Spelvin

One of the most accomplished XXX starlets of the 1970s, Georgina Spelvin began her Porn career in 1969 and went right on doing what she did up until around 2000. I mentioned that she was an accomplished performer and I wasn’t just saying that to be nice. Between 1976 and 1979, Georgina won a Best Actress and three Best Supporting Actress AFAA awards. She also starred in some of the decade’s biggest hardcore releases, including The Devil In Miss Jones (VCX), Takeoff (Video-X-Pix) and For Richer For Poorer (VCX). Georgina Spelvin was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1985.

5. Vanessa Del Rio

It’s impossible to talk about Seventies’ smut without mentioning Vanessa Del Rio. Beginning in 1975, Vanessa performed in close to 100 hardcore films throughout that decade and went on to star in an additional 200 across the 1980s and 1990s up until her retirement in 1999. Highlights of hers from the 70’s include Appointment With Agony (Avon Video), Midnight Desires (Video-X-Pix) and New York Babes (Arrow Productions). How awesome is Annette Haven? She’s one of two women featured on this list (Seka is the other) who also appear on Die-Screaming’s 10 Best 1980s Female Pornstars countdown. Two decades of awesome at anything, especially sex, is impressive as hell. During the Seventies, Annette established herself as one of the industry’s top talents and performed in many of the era’s biggest hits. Examples of her best stuff from that decade includes scenes in Coming Of Angels (Caballero Home Video), China Girl (VCX) and Lust At First Bite (VCA). Annette Haven was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 1989.

3. Brigitte Lahaie

A native of France, Brigitte Lahaie was easily one of the most popular European starlets of the Seventies. Her acclaim was so great that she became one of the very first truly international porn superstars. While the majority of Brigitte’s works were released in Europe with French titles and dialogue, several of the films were given English dubbing/subtitles and released to American audiences. Examples of films that got drops on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean include Sex Night Fevers, Perversions of a Young Bride and Sex Hunting Adventures.

Even though she didn’t begin her XXX career until 1977, that didn’t stop Seka from becoming the decade’s most popular hardcore starlet. By the time the swingin’ Seventies came to a close, this lady was an absolute superstar and would go on to continue her dominance as one of the industry’s most in-demand talents into the 1980s. Some of her best work from the Seventies includes films such as Teenage Desires (Gourmet Video Collection), Blonde Fire (Caballero Home Video) and Heavenly Desire (VCA).

About this Top 10 list…

It’s really friggin’ hard to put together a Top 10 list that ranks the female pornstars of an entire decade. For every woman who appears on this list, there’s at least three that didn’t fit but who are deserving. That being said, I think the rankings that you see above are about as perfect as any single human can manage. You probably disagree.
