The Four (2011)

The Four, the adult movie from Adam & Eve based upon the movie 300, is one of the most anticipated porn releases of 2012. Just released last week, but already a best seller over at Adult DVD Empire, The Four is certainly living up to its considerable pre-release hype. The film stars Nikki Kane, Renee Perez, Cassidey, and Brea Bennett and takes place just after the events in 300.
Director Michael Ninn goes out of his way to create something that should not be confused with a porn parody in that is far from “silly” or “cheesy”. Instead producing something that (at least based on the trailer) does a pretty decent job of capturing the look and feel of the original source material.
With a run time of three hours and twenty minutes, it’s safe to say that The Four doesn’t cut any corners. With that 3.5 hours comes with nine hardcore sex scenes, which is about four more than most porn films will give you. Additionally, director Michael Ninn does an impressive job at keeping the visual effects in line with the original 300 movie.
He uses the same slick slow-motion and smoke blurred visual effects that were used in the mainstream Hollywood movie. The result is something that is a hardcore porn film that has the look and feel of the much bigger budget mainstream 300 film.
As you can imagine, a super-huge budget (for a porn movie) combined with a great cast, talented director, and mainstream special effects has resulted in The Four to be pretty popular with the porn critics. Xcritic reviewer Don Houston had this to say about the 300 porn spinoff…
The Four by director Michael Ninn for release by Adam & Evewas a movie that I strongly suspect will garner a lot of critical acclaim in the coming year, already setting the bar higher than most would expect so early in the year with a movie that has literally gone through hell and back to see release. The visual effects are perhaps the biggest obstacle to the enjoyment of the sexual exploits of the fetching cast of ladies but frankly, they were in keeping with the battle scenes of the original movie that this was tied to so enjoy it as a “Highly Recommended” set of four discs, the extras adding some serious value for me. In short, The Four had a lot of heart and stood the test of time much better than most releases held onto (for legal reasons), the technical aspects and sexual exploits enough to keep people coming back for more. It was a nice touch to see the ending credits dedicating the movie to Lee Garland, one of the best makeup men in all of porn for years, the four page booklet form of the set helping showcase each of the leading ladies really well.
I mentioned up top that The Four should not be confused with a porn parody. While the film is absolutely based off of 300, The Four does nothing to qualify itself as a parody. It doesn’t try to poke fun of or copy Zack Snyder’s 300 movie in any way, but instead tries to build off the events in that movie and expand the story.
And while The Four certainly isn’t officially tied in any way to the mainstream Hollywood film, it does almost act as an unofficial sequel or spin-off. The fact that it places such an emphasis on quality visual effects and story only serve to make that connection just that much stronger.
