10. Charles Dera
Charles Dera put together what was arguably the strongest year of his career in 2017. The former Marine and Pennsylvania native scored Male Performer of the Year nominations from both AVN and XBIZ. His most impressive performance was probably in Half His Age: A Teenage Tragedy (Pure Taboo), a role that allowed him to show off his impressive dramatic acting skills in addition his XXX superpowers.
9. Ricky Johnson
Ricky Johnson is the reigning AVN and Urban X Best Male Newcomer award winner and with the year he put together in 2017, he put the industry on notice that he is one of its most elite male talents. He delivered solid performances in some of the year’s very best releases , including Interracial & MILF Vol. 2 (Blacked), Ethnicity (Wicked Pictures) and Eva (Tushy). And if all of that don’t impress you, he also just earned ten AVN Award nominations, including Male Performer of the Year.
8. Michael Vegas
Michael Vegas has long been one of the most all around talented men in porn and 2017 was another impressive year for this veteran cocksman. I’m not just saying that to be nice. I mean, he was just nominated for fucking fifteen XBIZ Awards, including three Best Actor and two Best Supporting Actor nominations. All those honors are well deserved for anyone who saw him in movies such as An Inconvenient Mistress (Wicked Pictures), How I Fucked Your Mother (Digital Playground) or Darker Side of Desire (Sweet Sinner).
7. Ramon Nomar
Die-Screaming has been doing the Best Male Pornstar rankings for four consecutive years at this point and Ramon Nomar has been had a spot in every one of those Top 10 lists. In 2017, Mr. Nomar performed in nearly 200 hardcore movies including A Hotwife Blindfolded 3 (New Sensations), Stacked 6 (Hard X) and Bra Busters 8 (Jules Jordan Video). It’s also worth noting that Ramon just earned his sixth AVN Male Performer of the Year nomination, a feat that’s impressive as hell and something that puts him in very elite company.
6. Ryan Driller
One of the best leading men in all of porn, Ryan Driller had another very impressive showing in 2017. While seeing him once again take on the role of Superman in Axel Braun’s Justice League XXX porn parody was exciting, his best work was his performances in An Inconvenient Mistress (Wicked Pictures) and Consequences of a Kiss (Wasteland Studios). For just those two films alone, Mr. Driller earned a collective seven AVN and XBIZ nominations.
5. Small Hands
Small Hands closed out 2017 by being nominated for a collective thirteen AVN and XBIZ Awards, including two Best Supporting Actor and one Male Performer of the Year honor. His most impressive performance of the year was his role in the critically acclaimed Half His Age: A Teenage Tragedy (Pure Taboo). He also performed in some of the year’s hottest all-sex releases, including The Gangbang of Riley Reid (Jules Jordan Video) and jessica drake Is Wicked (Wicked Pictures).
4. Isiah Maxwell
Isiah Maxwell had one of the most impressive years of his already impressive career in 2017. He received his second consecutive XBIZ Male Performer of the Year nomination and won the same honor earlier in the year at the Urban X Awards. Those honors are well deserved as Mr. Maxwell consistently delivered incredible performances in best-selling films such as Angela White Is Titwoman (Elegant Angel), Interracial Anal Vol. 4 (Dark X) and Jews Love Black Cock (Burning Angel Entertainment).
3. Markus Dupree
The fact that Markus Dupree was nominated for twenty-one AVN Awards this year should give you a pretty good idea of how incredible of a year he had in 2017. Even if you were only half paying attention to the smut being produced this year, it was nearly impossible to not see lots of Mr. Dupree doing what he does best as he had roles in nearly two-hundred hardcore films. Some of his finer moments came in movies such as Angela Loves Anal (AGW Entertainment), Cuties 10 (Elegant Angel) and Taste of Honey (Evil Angel).
2. Mick Blue
Mick Blue has won AVN’s prestigious Male Performer of the Year trophy for the past three years and should probably be considered the favorite to win it again this year, too. In 2017, all Mick Blue did was perform in well over two-hundred XXX films, including some of the year’s most impressive releases, including Lana (Tushy), Adventures With The Baumgartners (Adam & Eve) and Angela Vol. 3 (AGW Entertainment). It’s also worth noting that Mick Blue has ranked in the Top 5 in each of the years that Die-Screaming has been publishing these rankings and owned the #1 spot for the past two years.
1. Xander Corvus
Xander Corvus is Die-Screaming’s choice for the #1 Best Male Pornstar of 2017. Long considered one of the most talented men currently working in porn, Xander had a truely exceptional year over the past twelve months. That included playing the role of Green Lantern in Justice League XXX (Wicked Pictures), one of the year’s hottest B/G performances in Psychotic Behavior (Evil Angel) and performing in one of the best hardcore movies of 2017 with his role in Half His Age: A Teenage Tragedy (Pure Taboo).
Mr. Corvus has also once again been nominated for Male Performer of the Year by both AVN and XBIZ and could very well walk away with both of those trophies based on everything he’s done over the span of 2017.
About this year’s Best Male Pornstar rankings…
This is the fourth year that I’ve put together these Best Male Pornstars of the Year rankings for Die-Screaming. In order to come up with the list of performers and the order of ranking that you see here, I scored forty performers across nine categories and tallied up each of their overall totals. The men with the highest scores are the dudes you see here.
I’m not going to share my exact scoring formula because I am like Batman and very mysterious. However, I can share a few stats that might add a bit more context to these rankings…
- 23.1 points separated the first and tenth spots, while only 3.5 points made the difference between first and third place.
- 60% of the performers on this year’s Top 10 were also included in last year’s.
- Three guys were less than two points away from making it into this year’s Top 10.
What do you think?
There is no such thing as a “perfect” Top 10 list. Any time anyone tries to rank anything, some very deserving candidates get left out and that’s just the nature of these types of lists. That’s especially true when trying to score a category that’s as ridiculously competitive as Best Male Pornstar because there’s so much talent concentrated in a relatively small group of performers.
All of that being said, I’m confident in my selections for this year’s Top 10 Best Male Pornstars. But you probably disagree with all of it. And that’s fine; just leave your own rankings in the comments section below. Where no one will ever read them.
