Die-Screaming ranks the ten best XXX starlets of the 90’s
Raylene is an XRCO Hall of Fame Inductee and one of the industry’s most popular performers of the mid-90’s. She made her hardcore debut in 1996 and quickly achieved a relatively huge amount of success and popularity. Less than two years into her career, Raylene was selected to be a Vivid contract star, working exclusively for the studio up until 2001.
9. Silvia Saint
Silvia Saint was the Czech Penthouse Pet of the Year in 1996. By the end of the decade, she was one of the most popular women in American porn. Between 1997 and 1999, Silvia performed in just over 100 hardcore videos, was the October 1998 Penthouse Pet of the Month and probably one of the only people on the planet to have performed hardcore sex in zero gravity (for the movie The Uranus Experiment 2). In 2012, Silvia Saint was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame.
8. Rebecca Lord
Rebecca Lord also got her start in the European porn industry before making the jump over to the United States. A native of France, Rebecca started doing smut in 1993 and eventually performed in over 200 dirty movies during the 1990’s. Additionally, she started her own production company in the mid-1990’s and directed many of the films in which she also starred. Rebecca Lord is a member of the 2013 AVN Hall of Fame inductee class and is still producing and directing XXX movies.
7. Melissa Hill
Melissa Hill performed in nearly 225 XXX videos in the 1990’s, making her debut in 1993 and eventually retiring in 2001. During that span, Ms. Hill earned a bunch of major industry award nominations and won an AVN Best Actress trophy for her performance in Penetrator 2 (Pleasure Productions). Melissa Hill has also since been inducted into the XRCO and AVN Halls of Fame.
6. Julia Ann
Julia Ann is easily one of the most popular and important pornstars of all time. She made her hardcore debut in 1993 and went on to perform in several of the most popular hardcore videos throughout the 1990’s. Obviously, anyone who knows anything knows that she didn’t stop there and is still performing today. Over the span of her 20+ year career, Julia Ann has performed in over 800 films and is a member of the AVN, XRCO and NightMoves Halls of Fame.
5. Ashlyn Gere
Ashlyn Gere won the 1992 XRCO Female Performer of the Year Award and followed that up one year later by being crowned as the first-ever AVN Female Performer of the Year. Throughout the 1990’s, Ashlyn performed in about 275 hardcore movies, won three consecutive FOXE Fan Favorite Awards (1992 – 1994) and performed in some of the most popular XXX movies of the early and mid-1990’s, including Chameleons: Not the Sequel (VCA) and The Masseuse 2. Gere is a member of the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame.
During the 1990’s, nobody fucked harder that Celeste. Her style of super-hardcore XXX helped make her one of the most popular and in-demand starlets of the 90’s. To this day, her performances in Dinner Party (Ultimate) and Borderline (Vivid Entertainment) are the stuff of legend. Had she not retired in the mid-1990’s, Celeste very well could have been sitting at the top spot on this list.
3. Asia Carrera
Asia Carrera was an absolute superstar during the 1990’s and if you watched any amount of porn during that decade, you were very familiar with Asia Carrera’s work. Beginning her porn career in 1993, Asia performed in nearly 250 hardcore videos during the 1990’s and won the 1995 AVN Female Performer of the Year trophy. She retired from smut in 2003 and is a member of the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame.
2. Jill Kelly
Very few starlets dominated the porn industry in the 1990’s to the degree that Jill Kelly did. Making her XXX debut in 1993, Kelly went on to perform in well over 400 dirty movies during that decade and established herself as one of the most popular pornstars of all-time. Over the span of her career, Jill Kelly has won multiple major industry awards, including the 1998 XRCO Female Performer of the Year award. Jill is an inductee in the AVN and NightMoves Halls of Fame.
1. Jenna Jameson
Jenna Jameson is Die-Screaming’s choice for the greatest pornstar of the 1990s. That should come as no surprise, as no one was able to match the level of superstardom that Jenna achieved through her work in porn. Jameson started working in porn in 1993 and wasted no time in rocketing to become one of the biggest and most successful stars the porn industry has ever seen.
By the end of the 1990’s, Jenna Jameson had won or been nominated for nearly every major industry award possible, was a contract star for Wicked Pictures, was one of the most popular featured dancers in the United States and was so popular that she achieved true pop icon status. It’s widely said that between her performance, dancing and producing ventures, Jenna Jameson was at one point one of the wealthiest people in porn.
Sadly, Jenna Jameson’s life has basically been a train wreck lately. She’s been sued and arrested multiple times in recent years and while hosting the 2014 XBIZ Awards, was so fucked up that she could barely walk or stand. Today, Jameson identifies herself as an ultra-conservative “libslayer” who spends most of her time of Twitter talking about political shit.
This list ain’t perfect…
Trying to come up with a list of just ten pornstars to represent the best of an entire decade is stupid. There are way more than ten ladies who deserve to be on this list and it’s just not possible to make any kind of “Top 10” ranking that isn’t brutally flawed with omissions. But I do these things anyway because Satan commands it.
Some of the women who should be on this list but didn’t make it because of one reason or another? Chelsea Blue, Stephanie Swift, Lisa Ann, Kobe Tai, Tori Wells, Nikki Tyler, Bionca Seven and Janine Lindemulder. You could also maybe make an argument for Brianna Banks and Tera Patrick, although they didn’t get their start until the very end of the decade and were much bigger stars in the 2000’s.
What do you think?
Even though I freely admit that this list of the Top 10 Best Pornstars of the 1990’s is probably all sorts of flawed, I do stand by it. No, it’s far from perfect but I do think it’s as close to being really good as possible.
What are your thoughts on the rankings above? Because you are the Internet, I assume you disagree with all of it and have your own, much superior Top 10. That’s fine. Just include it in the comments below.
