This past weekend, Warner Brothers unveiled a new 4 minute Green Lantern theatrical trailer at Wondercon (see below).  Additionally, Ryan Reynolds, who plays Hal Jordan in the film, spoke to fans and reporters during a Green Lantern panel at the convention.  The theme of both the panel conversation and the trailer seemed to be, “This movie is not a comedy and this movie will not suck.”

This full-court press from Warner Brothers provided some welcome relief to fans who, over the past few months, have been expressing disappointment at the comedic-nature of the first Green Lantern trailer, the selection of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, and rumors that even some of the cast were bracing for the film to flop at the box office.  Reynolds, who is more of a dead ringer for Deadpool than Hal Jordan, went out of his way at Wondercon to help set these fears to the wayside.  “Green Lantern is not a comedy,” is what he told fans and reporters.

My thoughts?  I think this new trailer kicks all kinds of ass.  It is, really, the type of trailer that Warner Brothers should have released in the first place.  This new trailer seems to preview a movie that is much more loyal to the look, feel, and power of the Green Lantern comics.  I’ll go so far as to say that this trailer moved me from being prepared for disappointment to being genuinely excited to see the movie.  If Green Lantern can live up to what is presented in this trailer, I think the film will be one of the biggest successes of the Summer movie season.  And, yes, I think it will be a good movie, to boot.
