In addition to offering some spiffy new images of the heroes from the upcoming Avengers movie on its cover, the latest issue of Empire Magazine also contains some information about which villains won’t be appearing in the film. Asked about who, besides Loki, would be opposing the Avengers in the movie, Marvel Studios top-dog Kevin Feige was pretty clear about a few things. No Skrulls. No Red Skull. No Skrull-Kree War.

Here’s the part of the Empire interview that has the Internet world abuzz right now…
“Who said they were aliens?” he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? “Closer…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”
And after killing the Skrull rumor, Feige then went a step further, addressing the possibility of the Red Skull being the main baddy…
“Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?” asks Feige. “That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.” Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. “I do have a comment on that,” he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. “It’s…oh, you’re breaking up!”

So we know that it’s not the Skrulls and not the Red Skull. Feige also says that its an alien, but that the alien’s race “isn’t impactful.” Another rumor that’s been floating around for a long time, and one that wasn’t addressed by Kevin Feige, is that Thanos will be the other villain. As the Infinity Gauntlet did make an appearance (for about two seconds as a fuzzy part of the background) in the Thor movie, many fans believe Thanos to be a leading contender. In addition to Thanos, I’ve also heard people discuss the possibility of someone like Kang being that bad guy. As more information is revealed, I’ll be sure to pass it along. Until then, who do you think the other villain(s) is in the Avengers movie? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
