Will Loki and The Skrulls be taking on The Avengers next year?
For several months, now, rumors have been flying around the Internet about who The Avengers would be up against in their live action movie, set to hit theaters in the Summer of 2012. Most of those rumors have revolved around Loki and The Skrulls (an alien race of shape-shifters) as being the baddies in the movie. Now, more details are emerging that adds some weight to those rumors.
The Latino Review is reporting that they have obtained information from a “reliable inside source” who is working on the film, and this source says that, as expected, Loki and The Skrulls will be the bad guys in the Avengers movie. According to the Latino Review article…
“The main villain for The Avengers is none other than Thor’s adoptive brother and archenemy LOKI! But that’s not all, Loki needs some serious muscle to go up against The Avengers and he does this by using the cosmic cube seen in Captain America: The First Avenger and also seen in the screen capture I took of the Thor Comic-Con trailer. Loki uses the cube to get a hold of the Aliens (aka The Skrulls) to invade Earth and fight The Avengers.“
This makes enough sense to actually be believable. For starters, the villain in this movie is going to have to be uber-powerful to be able to stand up against the combined might of The Avengers. Loki, a Norse God, teaming up with an entire race of hostile aliens, The Skrulls, fits that bill nicely. Second, it allows Marvel to bring elements from the Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man movies all into one film, tying everything together. And finally, this sounds very similar (though not exactly) like the plot to the first Ultimates (a Marvel comic book based on the Avengers, for all you non-comic geeks out there) story, which starred almost the exact lineup of Avengers appearing in the film.
So will Loki and The Skrulls really be taking on The Avengers next year? I think that it’s a solid bet that the answer to that question is, “Yup!”, but who knows. Things change and maybe this “reliable source” that Latino Review is quoting isn’t as “reliable” as they think. However, I think that this story would be perfect for the Avengers movie and has enough potential to really make the film something special. Here’s to hoping…

Seems lame to me. Loki’s ok but the skrulls seem lame. Why not get each of the avenger’s most dangerous enemy and have them combine as an anti-team…along with the skrulls i guess. And there’s always Thanos
