We really haven’t heard all that much about the upcoming live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie reboot for a while, except for the fact that Michael Bay would be producing and the writers behind Mission Impossible 4 would be scripting the film. Now, we know that a director is close to being named for the project. Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans) is reportedly in talks to helm the Ninja Turtles movie. And, yeah, that’s about all the new updates we have at this time.

So, since I don’t really have anything else to report at this point, I suppose I’ll mention (once again) how nervous everyone seems to be that Michael Bay and his production company, Platinum Dunes, will screw up the Ninja Turtles movie. To quote from an older Film School Rejects post, in which Neil Miller addresses the issue…
“But here’s the real question: what kind of movie is Paramount looking for? Do they want a TMNT film that will appeal to children and teens, similar to the original 1990 film? Or are they looking for something violent and gritty that will target a nostalgic 18-35 male demographic? If recent industry trends — especially with releases like Kick-Ass and MacGruber falling short at the box office — suggest anything, it’s that Paramount should be going for a broad appeal. And while they’ve been commercially successful rehashing old horror icons, I can’t even begin to imagine Platinum Dunes making something teen-friendly. To say the least, it’s all very confusing. As much as I would love to see a badass Turtles flick full of grit, it’s not a financially sure decision for Paramount, a studio that, for the most part, plays it safe.”
Personally, I have zero faith in Michael Bay to do any justice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, since I just bashed the shit out of him in my Transformers 4 update recently, I won’t go down that road again. I really am hoping that this new Ninja Turtles movie is an absolute success and, who knows, maybe Bay and his team will prove all of us haters wrong and end up delivering something that is amazing. I sure hope so. As new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie updates make themselves available, I’ll be sure to pass them along.
