Guardians of the Galaxy – Melissa Stetten Auditions for Gamora

Guardians of the Galaxy director’s girlfriend makes audition video

Guardians of the Galaxy is being written and directed by James Gunn.  While we don’t yet know which actors/actresses will be cast in the movie, we do have some information about who will not be getting a role.  Earlier this month, we learned that Joseph Gordon-Levitt turned down playing the part of Star-Lord.  And now we know that Melissa Stetten – the girlfriend of James Gunn – will not be playing the part of Gamora.  I know she won’t because I and the rest of the Internet have seen her “audition” video for the part.

I think that this fake audition video was supposed to be funny.  If that was the intent, I think it missed the mark by a pretty wide margin.  I literally knew nothing about Melissa Stetten before she made this video.  So I Googled her.  What I learned is that she has a history of fabricating big publicity seeking lies, is an occasional fashion blogger for Vice, and is some sort of model.  Oh, and based on this audition video, I’m also horrified that she’s allowed to play with video making equipment.

Additionally, if I’m a Marvel Studios executive, I’m giving James Gunn a call and ordering him to get his shit together or risk being replaced as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy.  A few months ago, Gunn made headlines for posting a sexist blog post that made it clear he views female comic characters – and women in general – as little more than sex dolls.  Now this.  Taken together, it gives the impression that 1.) He has no business having anything to do with Marvel movies and 2.) He’s a hack who doesn’t have what it takes to put a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy together.

Am I being overly harsh?  Yeah, probably.  However, I’m really not impressed at all with anything that I’ve seen and heard about or from James Gunn.  I want Guardians of the Galaxy to be good but I have serious concerns that Gunn is going to massively screw it up.  Hopefully I’m wrong about all of that.  I guess we’ll see.

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.  As more information – hopefully the good kind – becomes available about the movie, I’ll be sure to keep everyone up to speed.  In the meantime, share your thoughts in the comments below.
