Fist Impressions of Cowboys and Aliens

When they heard about this movie, many people thought it was a joke.  Harrison Ford, starring in a cowboy film that featured aliens as the bad guys?  Yeah.  Right.  But, as you can see from the official, non-joke-of-a-trailer above, it’s really gonna’ happen.  And, honestly, it looks like it has potential.

Along with Harrison Ford, the film also stars Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde.  To add to that star power, the movie is being directed by John “I Directed Ironman Motherfucker!” Favreau and is produced by Steven Spielberg and Ryan Howard.  If this doesn’t smell like “blockbuster,” I don’t know what does.

The film, which is based on a graphic novel from Platinum Studios, looks like it could be impressive.  Actors, in my opinion, don’t get any better than Harrison Ford and seeing him in a film with lasers and spaceships again is enough to make my nipples tingle.  To be quite honest, I really, really want to see this movie.  I want to see cowboys fight aliens, goddammit!

Will this movie set new standards for film making or be considered a high-point in the careers of anyone involved?  Probably not.  However, it does appear, based upon the trailer, that it will be at least worth the cost of a movie ticket.  C’mon.  It’s got aliens, Harrison Ford, cowboys, is based on a graphic novel, and is produced by Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard.  If you can’t get into that, then you should probably go back to hanging out with your emo friends and hating everything for the sake of hating it.  I want to see this movie!
