Ed Brubaker to Write Ongoing Winter Soldier Comic

A few weeks ago, we posted a teaser image from Marvel Comics that seemed to hint about something to do with Winter Soldier. At the time, we really didn’t have any clue about what it meant. Now, with the publication of Fear Itself 7.1, we know that the Winter Soldier did not die with Bucky Barnes. And, in fact, Buck Barnes never really died. WHAT?!? Additionally, we also now know that Ed Brubaker (who has become the master of all things Captain America) will be writing a new, ongoing Winter Soldier comic which will be hitting comic stands, um, soon. Sometime in 2012.
What follows is the final page of Fear Itself 7.1 and while only one page, it contains all sorts of spoilers. So if you don’t like spoiler, don’t look at it. AVERT YOUR EYES!

So Bucky’s not dead and he’ll be returning to the Marvel Universe, in full force, with his Winter Soldier identity and brand new ongoing series. This probably explains, and puts in better context, why Bucky’s “death” back in Fear Itself #3 seemed so quick and far from the ending that most Cap and Bucky fans thought that the hero deserved. And Ed Brubaker will be writing the new series? Yeah. I’m thinking this book will do quite well. See you in 2012, Mr. Barnes.
