Dinobots to Appear in Transformers: Dark of the Moon?

Will the Dinobots be appearing in Transformers: Dark of the Moon?

A few weeks ago, some pictures of new Transformers: Dark of the Moon toys were leaked onto the Internet.  What made these pictures remarkable, and has resulted in a storm of debate and anticipation, is that the toys appear to be Dinobots.  Up until this point, everyone had assumed that the Dinobots, perhaps the most popular of all the Transformers, would be included in Dark of the Moon.  So, if there are Dark of the Moon Dinobot toys, does that mean that the Dinobots will be in the movie?

I hope so, but don’t count on it.  It’s no secret that Transformer director Michael Bay is no fan of the Dinobots.  Way back in 2009, when Bay was being interviewed by Empire Magazine about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, he was asked about the possibility of including the Dinobots in the next Transformers movie.  His response?

“They’ve never been discussed.  I don’t like them.  Actually, I hate them.”

This comment, and the shit-show that was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, has spawned all sorts of Michael Bay backlash among fans of the Transformers franchise.  The fact that the man who’s been tasked with bringing the Transformers to life on the big screen has flat out said he “hates” the Dinobots and doesn’t even want to discuss including them in future films is more than a little disappointing for Transformers fans, such as myself, who grew up watching the Transformers cartoons.  If Michael Bay hates the Dinobots, I hate Michael Bay and for that comment alone I hope he dies in a fire.

However, as I mentioned, the recent release of these Dark of the Moon Dinobot toys provides at least a little bit of hope that, maybe just maybe, Michael Bay was just pulling our leg and really has decided to include the Dinobots in his latest Transformers movie.  If true, it would be one of the highlights of the whole damn movie.  But let’s not get our hopes up.

For starters, just because these pictures were released doesn’t mean that these toys are even real.  It could all be a hoax.  Also, assuming these toys are real (if they are, I haven’t yet seen them anywhere), it doesn’t mean that these characters, Rav and Triceradon, will appear in Dark of the Moon.  Toy companies know that kids and fans and collectors will eagerly grab up whatever product is stamped with the Dark of the Moon label and have zero interest in keeping the toy line true to the actual movie.

As I said, I certainly hope that the Dinobots will appear in Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  However, considering that Michael Bay has straight out said he hates them, combined with the fact that we’ve seen absolutely no evidence of them appearing in any of the many clips and trailers that have so far been released, I find it doubtful.  I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it happening.  All the more reason for me to continue to hope that Michael Bay dies in a fire.
