A few days ago, we learned that IDW Publishing was planning the mother of all Sci-Fi events; a Star Trek / Doctor Who crossover comic. The book will feature the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation teaming up with Doctor Who and his companions. And that, along with some cover art, was all we knew at the time. Now, however, IDW is releasing some more details, along with more artwork. We now know that it will be an eight issue mini-series, with the Star Trek and Doctor Who team taking on the combined forces of the Borg and the Cybermen.
To quote from the IDW Star Trek / Doctor Who press release…
“Launching in May, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 will feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.”
Writing the Star Trek / Doctor Who crossover will be Scott and David Tipton, who also wrote Star Trek: Infestation for IDW. Joining them for the writing duties will be Tony Lee, a longtime writer for the BBC’s Doctor Who show. Artist J.K. Woodward will be handling the art chores, painting the entire series. As you can imagine, an event of this magnitude is getting a lot of attention from all quarters. Expect this series, especially issue #1, to be an instant collectors item, with hugely over-priced copies being sold on Amazon and eBay as soon as its released in May.
