Later this month, the landmark 100th issue of The Darkness goes on sale.  And while that alone would be cause for some special attention, The Darkness #100 is made even more special as it represents writer Phil Hester’s final issue on the book.  The issue caps off his Total Darkness storyline, which sees Jackie Estacado (who wields The Darkness power) travel to the home dimension to confront the source of his power/curse.  So, with this issue being a big deal and all, Image has prepared several variant covers.

In an interview given back in December, here’s what Phil Hester had to say about his final issue of The Darkness…

“This is the story I’ve been building to since I started on the book.  There’s a huge dissonance at the heart of Jackie Estacado’s existence: How can he wield unimaginable power, yet still be a slave to its source?  How can he ever know if his character is genuine, or simply the affectations of The Darkness?  That conflict is resolved in my final arc when Jackie confronts The Darkness for the final time, and on its own turf.  The lords of comic book hype keep ringing that ‘things will never be the same’ bell, but at Top Cow real change is still possible.  My last run on THE DARKNESS is proof.”
