Pete and Miriam - BOOM Studios

In March, Pete and Miriam, an original graphic novel, will be hitting comic store shelves everywhere.  BOOM! Studios has announced the book, by Eisner Award winning artist Rich Tommaso, will be published under it’s BOOM! Town imprint.  Best known for his award winning work on Satchel Paige: Striking Out Jim Crow, Tommaso’s Pete and Miriam will focus on the two title characters and their coming of age story, set in 1970′s New Jersey.

To quote from the press release….

“In his first full length graphic novel, Tommaso tells the story of Pete and Miriam, the title characters, in a complicated relationship as best friends growing up in New Jersey in the 1970s: Mischief Night, schoolyard fights, parents, washed-up film directors, and a roomful of ex-girlfriends.  The mundane and the unpredictable collide as Pete and Miriam forge their friendship through the odyssey of coming of age in America.”

Rich Tommaso -Eisner Award winning artist

While many people may not be familiar with Mr. Tommaso, he’s an acclaimed artist that’s worked for several different publishers and has earned a number of major awards and nominations over the years.  While his Satchel Paige: Striking Out Jim Crow (2007) is the work that earned him an Eisner Award, and all the fame and publicity that goes along with it, Rich Tommaso’s other work includes Cannibal Porn (1994), Let’s Hit the Road (1998), The Horror of Collier County (1999), 8 1/2 Ghosts (2003), and Perverso (2004).  Pete and Miriam stands out, as it represents Tommaso’s first graphic novel that he’s both scripted and drawn.

In speaking about the upcoming Pete and Miriam, here’s what Matt Gagnon, BOOM!’s editor-in-chief, had to say…

“It’s a timeless story. We all struggle with identity and the mystery of being an adult when we grow up.  Tommaso brings a lucidity to this slice-of-life that reflects why he’s already and Eisner Award-winner.”

Pete and Miriam will ship in March and cost a reasonable $14.99, not bad for a 112 page graphic novel.  If interested in obtaining a copy, be sure to mention it to your local comic shop representative so enough copies are ordered.
