Christian Bale returns for a third time as Batman in The Dark Knight Rises.
We’ve learned more about the characters and cast that will be appearing in the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. It has been confirmed that both Bane and Catwoman will be the villains in the film, giving even more credibility to the rumor that Dark Knight Rises will be based on the Prey graphic novel. Okay, Batman fans, it’s time to start getting excited.
Catwoman, Batman’s sometimes enemy/sometimes freak-bitch lover, will be played by the always sexy Anne Hathaway. Bane, the drugged up Bat-buster, will be played by Tom Hardy (who also had a breakout role in director Christopher Nolan’s other movie, Inception). Considering how masterfully Batman director/writer Christopher Nolan has handled previous Batman baddies (Ra’s al Ghul, Joker, and Scarecrow), fans should fully expect nothing less from this next batch of villains.

Anne Hathaway has been cast as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
To quote from the ContactMusic.com article…
“THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the forthcoming Batman movie by acclaimed director Christopher Nolan will feature the American actress Anne Hathaway as ‘Catwoman’, reports the UK’s Independent newspaper. Hathaway, currently starring in the romantic-comedy ‘Love & Other Drugs’, will be the first actress to play the Gotham City villain since Michelle Pfeiffer took on the role for ‘Batman Returns’.
There has been intense speculation in recent weeks as to which villains would feature in the new movie and who would be cast, but in a statement issued yesterday (19th January 2011) 40-year-old Nolan said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story”. The director also confirmed that ‘Inception’ star Tom Hardy will star as ‘Bane’, a villain that previously appeared in the 1997 movie ‘Batman & Robin’, he added, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies”.
The combination of Bane and Catwoman provide the opportunity to continue the dark and morbid theme of films that the previous two Batman films setup. Additionally, with a stunner like Anne Hathaway playing the feisty, sexy, and leather-clad Catwoman, expect to see a LOT of this costume during Halloween 2012 (the year Dark Knight Rises hits theaters). Mr. Nolan has everything he needs to unleash a dark, sexy, badass film.

Tom Hardy will be playing the uber-powerful Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
Focusing for a moment back to the title of this film, I can’t help but wonder what comes after The Dark Knight Rises. Maybe something like, oh I don’t know, Knightfall? Anyone who had the pleasure of reading that epic Batman storyline can tell you that if made into a film of any quality, it would surely be something worth seeing. And the fact that Bane makes his debut in this film would set things up nicely for that follow up. Just a thought.
So what are your thoughts on the casting announcements for The Dark Knight Rises? Like them, love them, have better ideas? The conversation moves to the comments.
