The Avengers Marvel NOW! Roster Revealed

Avengers Marvel Relaunch Covers

As I’ve been reporting for several weeks, Marvel Comics is planning some big changes.  Starting next month, Marvel will be relaunching the majority of its comics by way of an event known as “Marvel NOW!“.  As part of that relaunch (not a reboot), there are some pretty major changes in terms of the Avengers lineup.  We knew that Uncanny Avengers was going to feature a team of Avengers and X-Men working as one unit.  We now know, courtesy of some snazzy cover art, that the trend will carry over into the relaunched Avengers title, as well.

As you can see from the image above (click to enlarge), the updated Avengers roster will include the core members that everyone has become used to, along with new additions from the X-Books.  Based on the art, which is made up of interlocking covers from Avengers #1 – #3, we can assume that the Avengers roster will consist of…

  • Captain America
  • Hulk
  • Black Widow
  • Iron Man
  • Hawkeye
  • Thor
  • Wolverine
  • Cannonball
  • Falcon
  • Captain Marvel
  • Sunspot
  • Spider Woman
  • Spider-Man
  • Some mystery guy that we don’t know yet

This new Avengers series, which is set to launch in December, will be written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by artist Jerome Opeña.  As you can see from the cover art, there are quite a few costume modifications going on here.  Captain America seems to have been given a more “Ultimate” style costume, as has Hawkeye.  Iron Man’s armor has a new color scheme, more in line with the Iron Man 3 armor that was debuted at Comic Con.  The Hulk has a haircut, Thor has been given a sleeker, more modern looking outfit, and Captain Marvel is, well, the former Ms. Marvel that was debuted back in Captain Marvel #1 a few months ago.
